Life is Short: Enjoy Every Moment!

By Stephanie DeFazio

In September, while visiting my sister and her husband up in New Hampshire, we stumbled across this cute little mercantile that sold everything from candles to clothing to inspirational coasters. This coaster (pictured to the left) caught my eye:

Life is short.

Buy the shoes

Drink the wine

Order the dessert

It is such a simple inspiration yet it says so much more. Some of the biggest stressors in our lives involve money and how we decide to spend it. At the same time, we also struggle with making enough time to show ourselves some self-love.

For me, I feel that most of the time, I'm going a mile a minute! I'm running around from work to home, taking care of my dog, paying the bills, and going grocery shopping. By the time I get to relax in the evening, I only have a few more hours before I go to bed and start the craziness all over again! Do you ever feel the same way?

That's why we can embrace these little moments and pleasures when we get to buy those shoes we've been wanting for a while, and we decide, that yes, tonight, we are ordering that dessert! Sometimes, we get too serious about "adulting," let negativity take our joy, and don't embrace the "life is short" mentality. It can truly be a freeing experience once we embrace this mentality.

Country music group Old Dominion has an amazing newer song that says just that: "life is short, make it sweet." It's all about making "a little lemonade if lemons is all we got":

'Cause I'm stuck on you, you're stuck on me I never gotta wonder where my honey be I ain't savin' all my sugar for a Saturday night Seven days a week I got an appetite The sunsets like a tangerine Let's find a road we've never seen Don't waste another mile or a minute not kissin' me Life is short, make it sweet

Don't let life pass you by without taking the time to appreciate those little moments. Embrace the things and the people around that make you the happiest... that's how you live your most authentic life.
