About the Artist:  Art for me is a wonderful exploration of the human in the divine.  I paint pictures of magical events, goddesses, dragons, spirits and cosmic scenarios because a conversation with the spiritual is a core part of my life.  I start each painting with a clear point of departure, an inspiration from a specific event, experience, or perception.  Meditations, dreams, poems, musings and conversations all tend to work their ways into my paintings. Sometimes (the fun times), inspiration takes off on its own, and the painting and I end up in new and unexpected cosmic landscapes.

For this show, I have reached back to experiences that are, for me, part of Dorothy’s Hero’s Journey.  That includes the joy and inspiration of reading, the connection of spiritual practice with spiritual growth, the importance of humor in facing life’s challenges, and the sense that contentment in life is always a moving target, and that we might as well enjoy the chaos, because we never know when our house is going to be swept away to parts unknown.

I always hope the viewer of my painting feels a resonance with something joyful or powerful in him or herself; a recognition of the Divine Journey, a glimpse into Big Magic, a reminder of the love and inspiration that is available in us at all times.  Being a spiritual being in a human experience is always challenging and contradictory, and my art is meant to explore and illuminate that journey.
In addition to original oils on canvas, I also do limited prints of my work, and custom commissions. I live in Watertown, MA and have a 26 year-old daughter, who is one of my favorite subjects and best fans.
